Sophie didn’t just type other people’s letters she wrote some of her own telling acting as a news hub for the entire the family.

These are letters that Sophie wrote to the family during the war.

January 19, 1944Disappointed not to hear more from people, Walter and Ben sailing at the same time.
April 6, 1944Congrats to Leo, disappointed not to hear from everyone, Alan digging up the back yard.
April 13, 1944Busy typing Ben’s letters. Praying for Walter’s safety. Ros in town.

July 19, 1944Asking Helen if she received the package (and that she owes $3.25). Ros attending her uncle’s funeral. Mailing Walt 5 pounds of baking powder.
July 26, 1944More on Walt and the baking powder. Buying rayon underwear for Ros’s girls (10 pair for $3.00).
August 2, 1944Mutt Kruke was killed in France. Ben moved from his hospital. Sending Hersheys to Ben. Irv going in to Snapp’s bowling alley.
August 9, 1944Louise and David in Battle Creek. Hoping to go to Chicago for vacation.
August 23, 1944Visiting Greenfield, visiting the wife of Van, from Walter’s group. Ros ran a red light.
August 30, 1944Ben in France, looking forward to seeing Leo in October, Alan playing football, Irv buying out Snapps.
August 22, 1945Congrats to Chip on his promotion, Irv having trouble with his leg, Evy to dinner, Edith having trouble, happy to see Walter
